Invisalign Q & A
What is Invisalign ®?
Invisalign is an invisible alternative to traditional metal braces when it comes to moving and straightening your teeth for a beautiful smile.
There are many reasons people choose Invisalign over traditional braces, such as:
- Comfort
- Removable
- Aesthetically appealing due to the product’s unassuming appearance
- Easier access to brushing and flossing
These benefits make Invisalign well worth the price since it leads to improved overall health along with an increase in your self-confidence.
What can I expect throughout my Invisalign treatment?
Dr. Blaustein uses his own expertise along with his state-of-the-art 3D computer imaging technology to get the measurements used to make your Invisalign trays. These trays help move our teeth and align them towards an aesthetic smile. You wear each set of trays for roughly two weeks prior to moving onto another new set.
Dr. Blaustein recommends wearing your aligners at least 22 hours per day, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.
Although treatment length varies from patient to patient, Dr. Blaustein estimates the total treatment time averages 9-15 months, and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is roughly 18-30.
What is the difference between Invisalign and braces?
Invisalign is a less invasive alternative to straightening your teeth than traditional braces and virtually invisible. This enables you to feel great about yourself while getting the orthodontic treatment you need.
With Invisalign, you can enjoy your daily activities such as not having food restrictions since you can simply remove your aligners while eating and then put them back on afterward. With traditional braces, you are restricted from food which can break your brackets such as corn chips, sticky candy, or nuts. In addition, Invisalign has fewer emergencies due to no wires, meaning fewer trips to the office.
On the other hand, Invisalign tends to be more limited and may not be suitable for patients whose case is more difficult requiring traditional metal braces. Because of this, Dr. Blaustein recommends you come in for a consultation to assess your personal situation and see if you are a good candidate for Invisalign.
