Why is Flossing so Important? | October is Dental Hygiene Month!
We’ve heard it a million times, “Don’t forget to floss after you brush your teeth”, and for a large majority, flossing isn’t the most crucial thing they could be doing at that time. What those individuals don’t know is that dental floss is indeed a vital ingredient in the recipe for success to maintaining a healthy mouth!
Flossing cleans the spaces between your teeth and along your gums. Dental floss helps to remove food debris and plaque from the spaces between your teeth where your tooth brush can’t reach.
There a ton of different flossing products out there today. We have:
- Waxed Dental Floss – coated with wax to slide easier between teeth.
- Unwaxed Dental Floss – tends to absorb food particles easier than waxed floss.
- Dental Tape – thicker than normal floss, reduces breaking and fraying.
- Interdental Cleaning aids (Picks and Special Sticks)- these instruments hold the floss tighter and the tighter the floss the better it works.
In order to find the right product for you, consult your dentist. They will recommend the most appropriate tool for you based off of the conditions of your gums. Some flosses may be too harsh for individuals, while some flosses may be too soft.
Flossing is the step that could change the state of your dental hygiene.
